Mangaluru: Commissioner of Police Sandeep Patil has strictly instructed sand transporting lorries to cover the sand with tarpaulin while transporting from one area to another.

The instruction was issued during the weekly phone-in-programme organised at his office on Friday, March 8. A caller from Maroli informed about the lorries carrying uncovered sand, causing grave inconvenience to other road users, specifically to the two-wheeler riders.

Responding to it, Patil strictly instructed the sand transporters to cover the load with tarpaulin so that the loose sand does not fly around causing inconvenience. He said that the lorries that carry sand without covering them will be seized.

Meanwhile, a caller from Talapady complained of illegal transportation of sand from Mangaluru to Kerala, to which Patil assured of taking strict action. “A team of police would be deployed at vantage points soon in order to trap the offenders”, he added.
