Mangaluru: Jailani Kharuri, a resident of Bhatkal, who was suffering from repeated episodes of loss of consciousness had given up hope on living a normal life. But, as they say every cloud has a silver lining, Kharuri’s meeting with Indiana Hospital Managing director and renowned cardiologist Dr Yusuf Kumble brought the much needed hope back into his life.
A team of cardiologists led by Dr Kumble sponsored automatic implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (AICD) worth Rs 5 lakh to save the life of 70-year-old Kharuri, thereby not just helping Kharuri lead a normal life, but also upholding humanity, given the fact that Kharuri has been running from pillar to post to get monetary help.

Addressing the media persons on Wednesday, Dr Yusuf Kumble said that Kharuri was admitted to Indiana Hospital and Heart Institute for treatment and on completing several tests they identified the problem- a life threatening ventricular tachycardia arrhythmia, which can cause sudden cardiac death.

“The only life saving treatment was to implant an AICD,” said Dr Kumble adding that the cost of the implant was about Rs 5 lakh.

However, when Kharuri could not put together the required amount, he had left the hospital without completing the treatment.

With a heart attack last week, Kharuri came back to Indiana. By this time, the staff and doctors of Indiana had sought help from general public so that Kharuri’s life could be saved.

Mentioning to media about Arshad Mohitsham and Isbul Battul- two people who generously donated for the cause, the team of doctors immediately went ahead with the procedure.

Dr Kumble, Dr Abdul Mansoor, Dr Shivashankar sponsored the implant and result of this kind gesture was visible. An evidently happy Kharuri and his family members were grateful to the team of doctors.

After all for them, these doctors turned out to be visible gods!
