Mangaluru: First on grid 10 KW petrol bunk solar power plant of Dakshina Kannada was inaugurated in Mangaluru on Thursday, May 19 by Minister for Energy D K Shivakumar. This has been set up at MACO HPCL petrol bunk near Balmatta through Raija Solar.
Raija Solar Marketing head Irshad, speaking to Newskarnataka said that the project intends to create a greener planet through eco-friendly means.

“It is a plan by the MESCOM, which is catching up. Whoever wants to set roof-top solar plant, first they need to service consumption. Under this system, the ones installing solar panels can geenrate power for personal consumption and then sell the excess of power to the Mescom at Rs 7.8 per unit,” he said adding that it is a great investment with the 25 year power purchase agreement with the MESCOM and 25 year working guarantee for solar module.

There are already 37 projects undertaken in DK district and this first petrol bunk solar power plant can produce an average of 1200 unit/month, he added.

District in-charge Minister Ramanath Rai and MLC Ivan D’Souza were the chief guests on the occasion. HPCL and MESCOM officials were present.
