DKMUL celebrates World Milk Day

Mangalore : State Health and Family Welfare Minister UT Khader has said that there is a greater need to encourage dairy farming in the state.

He was speaking after inaugurating World Milk Day programmes organised by the DK District Co-operative Milk Union Ltd at Kulshekhar here on Sunday June 1. Khader further said the Union has helped  many a people including women from backward areas to lead a life of self reliance. Pointing out that at present dairy farming is restricted to rural areas, he said even the younger generation must be attracted towards the field. He said the government has encouraged dairy farming by increasing the incentive from Rs 2 to Rs 4.

Raviraj Hegde, President of the DKMUL the World Health Organisation has declared June 1 as World Milk Day. He also informed that the  Union supplies 3.2 lakh litres of milk and 50,000 liters of curds every day.

He further stated that  the Union is celebrating Nandini Sihi Utsav-Nandini Sweet Festival  from June 1 to 7 as part of World Milk Day.

Outstanding Nandini dealers who registered highest sale of milk were honoured with cash prizes and mementoes on the occasion.

Mahabala Maarla, Mangalore Mayor,  Dr. BV Satyanarayana, Managing Director of DKMUL, A Monappa Bhandary, MLC. Kalanje Vishwanath Rai and others were present.
