Mangaluru: “Dakshina Kannada and Davangere Districts have been chosen for the NCD Project, which will receive funding from the World Bank,” said U T Khader, Health Minister, Govt of Karnataka, while addressing a press meet here in city.
The inauguration of the NCD Pilot Project will be held on October 5, 2015 at TMA Pai hall. All the members of Zilla and Gram Panchayat will also be trained.
“In order to prevent the non-communicable diseases such as diabetes, hypertension and cancer of the uterus the patients will be diagnosed at the primary level and will be treated if found. Nurses in every PHC on contract basis have already been appointed for this project. Screening of the patient will be done at the primary level. Every patient will be checked for diabetes and hyper tension. Nurse or Asha workers will conduct screen-tests in every house to find out if anyone has diabetes, hypertension or cancer of the uterus. When found to have diabetes or hypertension, they will be treated free of cost”, the Minister said.
66 PHC’s, 8 Community Hospitals and four Taluk hospitals in Dakshina Kannada are included under NCD pilot project and this pilot project will be continued till March 2016.
The cost incurred for one PHC is estimated to Rs 2 lakh for one year, which includes Nurses Salary and the expense of Drugs and medicines.
Khader said, “All the local representatives should join hands with the Health Department to reach every household to enlighten them about the Arogya Shree scheme. Lab testing, insulin injections and all medicines will be provided free of cost. For those suffering from diabetes, hypertension, and those spending more money on their medicines will be given drugs, insulin, and other medicines free under the NCD Project”.
Healthy Child & Healthy Family:
In order to achieve 100% immunization in the state, the govt of Karnataka will be organizing Phase II Indradhanush-2015 campaign from October 7, 2015. The campaign will run for 7 days a month for the next four months till January 2016.
Both, child (0-2 years of age) and mother will be given vaccinations.
“The campaign strives to provide vaccination against seven life-threatening diseases such as polio, diphtheria, whooping cough, tetanus, tuberculosis, measles and hepatitis B in the entire country. It is critical to identify the districts where focused efforts with systematic immunization drive and additional resources will be required for reaching all children with the available life-saving vaccines”.
“Due to lack of immunization, these days many youth and children are suffering from various diseases. With this regard, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has launched “Mission Indradhanush”, in December 2014 to achieve more than 90% immunization coverage in the country. Phase 2 will target 297 medium-focus districts without four rounds of activity planned between October 2015 to January 2016. These high and medium focus district account for 88% of the total missed children”, Khader said.
Speaking with regard to E-hospitals, Health minister said, “The work is in process, the dept is working with IT sector and Rs 35Cr under innovative scheme for this new program”.
