DK reports new COVID-19 case after 12 days; Tally rises to 13

Mangaluru: After not having reported any new COVID-19 cases for the past 12 days straight, a 39-year-old man from the Dakshina Kannada district tested positive for COVID-19, on Friday, April 17.

The man is a resident of Uppinangady. The total of COVID-19 confirmed cases has now risen to 13, which includes nine discharges and four active cases.

It is learnt that the new COVID-19 case from Uppinangady had been to New Delhi to attend the Tablighi Jamaat meet. He returned to Mangaluru from New Delhi by train on March 21.

He had been quarantined by the district administration on April 1 as they had been tracing all the people who had attended the Tablighi event

His throat swabs tested negative for COVID-19 on April 2. Fresh swabs were sent for testing on April 13, the results of which came back positive for COVID-19 today.

Meanwhile, the district continues to remain a “hotspot” for COVID-19 cases.
