DK Police block highways, entry from Kerala restricted without Covid negative reports

Mangaluru: Steps have been taken by the Dakshina Kannada District Police to block highways at entry points from Kerala to prevent people without Covid negative certificates from crossing the border.

According to the police sources, surveillance has been increased along the borders with Kerala in the districts of DK, Kodagu, and Chamarajanagar.

To prevent the movement of vehicular traffic from Kerala, police used earthmovers to dig up roads within the jurisdiction of Karnataka at various border crossings in DK district.

Covid cases have been on the rise in Kerala in over the last few weeks.

Authorities believe that it is due to large number of commuters travelling between Kasaragod and Mangaluru for various reasons that the numbers are Covid cases are increasing in the DK and Udupi districts.

The daily commuters who travel between the two border districts of Kasaragod and DK, largely for work, education, and medical support, are demanding that the RT-PCR negative certificates should not be made mandatory.
