Mangaluru: As some low-lying areas in the Dakshina Kannada district have been submerged due to the incessant rains, Deputy Commissioner S Sasikanth Senthil has asked all concerned officials to be alert and take appropriate measures to ensure that there are no casualties in the district.

To this end, Senthil convened a meeting of all officials at his office on Saturday, August 10, and instructed them to keep updating about the measures taken to mitigate rain-related issues every three hours. The nodal officers have been instructed to handle all issues and take appropriate measures to prevent any untoward incidents in the district.

For the gruel centres (Ganji Kendras) which have been set up by the district administration for the flood-affected, the DC instructed the officials to provide basic amenities. Meanwhile, he asked them to make arrangements to repair the roads, electric poles etc. which get damaged as a result of the rains.

“Measures have been taken to move the residents of low-lying to safer locations. The people should not panic as the district administration has taken all precautionary measures to ensure that no one is adversely affected. Additional boats have also been pressed into service to evacuate the people who are likely to be affected by the floods,” Senthil added.
