Moodbidri: Athletes who won gold medal in Kabaddi and relay from Dakshina Kannada, Mamatha Poojary and Poovamma were felicitated here on Monday.

Jain mutt Charukeerthi Bhattaraka Panditha Charyavarya Seer congratulated both the athletes at a felicitation programme organised by Pandith Health Resort and Spa in Alangar. He also wished them success in the coming Olympics.

Lal Goel, promoter of Pandit Health resort also wished all success for the athletes. He also said that the help given by state government was not satisfactory.

Speaking on the occasion Mamatha Poojary said that her parents and her husband encouraged her to do whatever she likes. People are not only showing interest towards cricket but also other sports like kabaddi etc.

Athlete Poovamma said, “all are congratulating me after I won gold in Asiad games. But to achieve this my parents and brother have supported me in every way possible. I didn’t get any external support to reach this far”.

Alangar church parish priest Rev Fr Basil Vaz, Ishwar Bhat from Alangar Ishwar Temple, Ex-MLA K Amarnath Shetty, BJP district vice president K P Jagadish Adhikari, Arjun award winner athlete Manjari Bhargav, Archana from Jet airways, Muncipality member Rathnakar Devadiga, P K Thomas, Businesman Abdul Ala and others were present.
