Mangaluru: Dakshina Kannada District Deputy Commissioner Sindhu B Rupesh asked the public to cooperate with ASHA Workers and Multipurpose Health Workers (MPW) when they visit their homes in order to conduct a survey in the next few days.

In a video message to the public, the DC informed that even though 12 persons were infected with COVID-19 in the district, nine people have already been discharged from the hospital after making a fully recovery. “However, we need to concentrate on the elderly and others to ensure that no one gets infected by COVID-19 in our district again. Hence, our health workers are collecting information about those who have influenza like illness (ILI) and severe acute respiratory infection (SARI). If we collect sufficient information about these people, then medical intervention will be easy for the health department, ” she said.

“While ASHA workers collect information in the rural areas, MPW workers will gather information in the Mangaluru City Corporation’s (MCC) limits. They will ask details about the members in the house, address and contact numbers. They will ask details about elderly people and whether they are suffering from any diseases like those of the kidney, respiratory issues and others. This information will be compiled by the district administration in order to conduct medical intervention whenever required. People should not worry when the health workers come to their doorsteps and should provide proper information and cooperate with the health workers,” she added.

She also asked the public to keep their surroundings clean stating that the rainy season is fast approaching and there may be cases of Malaria and Dengue. “ASHA and MPW workers will ask the public to conduct source reduction and to prevent the collection of water on the terrace and surrounding areas to ensure that mosquitoes do not get a chance to breed anywhere. People should cooperate,” she stressed.

Meanwhile, the DC informed that the health department is in touch with all the nine COVID-19 patients who were discharged as they are undergoing home quarantine for another 14 days as instructed by the district administration. “We also traced the primary and secondary contacts of the infected persons to ensure that no one gets infected with the virus,” She said.
