Mangaluru: The hopes and aspirations within AAP members of the district have been rekindled after the party won a resounding victory in the Delhi Assembly polls yesterday.

The disgruntled party members in the district were chalking out  plans to ride on the Delhi wave to claim political relevance ahead of the 2017 state assembly elections. “The party’s resounding victory was the result of the relentless hard work of AAP volunteers” said routed candidate of AAP from DK M R Vasudev. The party functionary of the AAP has to take a cue from the character showcased by the Delhi volunteers.

He suggested that AAP should pick up issues affecting the people in the district. “The party has to take issues such as Yettinahole River Diversion Project, National Highway projects that are underway at a snail like pace and others”.

He said that  he received calls from a local party leader to join the celebration and as an Aam Aadmi, (common man) and he was happy to join.

While, Vasudev hinted at working for the party adopting a new strategy, AAP Dakshina Kannada District Secretary Rohan Shiri said the party was working on a few issues pertaining to Mangalore City Corporation. “The party would hit the streets of Mangaluru demanding a slash in power tariff to address the problems of the people. He said,  the party would conduct a membership drive adopting new techniques of  motivating people to join.

When asked about the internal differences that marred the party’s chances, during last general elections, he said the party welcomed a check on the track records. He informed that the new membership drives would conduct scrutiny of members willing join the party. He expressed the party would resolve difficulties relating to fund crunch at the earliest, to execute the plan to the best of its ability.

Interestingly Ex-AAP member Nandagopal said he would work for the AAP ideology. He was fascinated by the idea of AAP and system of internal democracy. To the question on whether he was hinting at joining the party,  he claimed he works for the ideology on his own interest and capacity and does not work for the party.

While, congratulating the AAP for its historic win in Delhi, he  advised that the party should toil on the ground and climb the ladder of politics systematically. “The party requires mobilizing a support base from the local elections to increase the vote share in the coming assembly elections”.

He said that the AAP in the district had to stick to the fundamentals of the party and uphold internal democracy which was lagging behind during Lok Sabha elections.
