Mangaluru: People can heave a sigh of relief as the police department has now said that they can keep their vehicles’ documents in DigiLocker mobile app and show it whenever they are asked to show by the traffic police.
The sources in the department have said that instead of producing hard copies of the documents of the vehicles like Driving Licence (DL), Registration Certificate (RC), Insurance copy and emission test copies, people can store their documents in DigiLocker mobile app and show it when police ask to produce it. The department has clarified that scanned copies of documents are not valid.
During the rainy season, people usually don’t keep their documents in vehicles saying that it gets spoiled in rains. Due to this, the ones who possess documents to are made to pay a penalty. As police department has now announced that the documents can be stored in DigiLocker mobile app, it comes as a major respite for vehicle users.
DigiLocker is an online service provided by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (IT), Government of India under its Digital India initiative. DigiLocker provides an account in the cloud to every Indian citizen to access authentic documents/certificates such as driving license, vehicle registration, academic mark list in digital format from the original issuers of these certificates. It also provides 1GB storage space to each account to upload scanned copies of documents.
To avoid being paid penalty, people should follow traffic guidelines and possess vehicles documents, Commissioner of Police Dr P S Harsha informed.
