Delegation meets DC after Dubai returnees complain of unpreparedness

Mangaluru: Even though the district administration made all necessary arrangements at the Mangaluru International Airport (MIA) to receive the foreign returnees on Tuesday night, there was unnecessary delay in conducting the health check-up, which inconvenienced the returnees.

It is also alleged that elderly people and pregnant women were ill-treated by the district administration. A few pregnant women who arrived from Dubai last night narrated the ordeal they faced at MIA and during the transit to the quarantine centres.

Outraged by the complaints they heard, the public criticised the district administration for their unpreparedness.

Muslim leaders meet DC to rectify problems

A delegation of Muslim leaders led by MLC B M Farooq met Dakshina Kannada district Deputy Commissioner Sindhu B Rupesh and urged her to rectify the confusion and problems pertaining to procedures involving receiving of foreign returnees.

After consulting the DC, the delegation informed that as there are a limited number of doctors and health workers deployed to conduct the medical checks of foreign returnees at MIA, there was a delay.

More number of doctors and health workers should be deployed to done the procedures, they urged. They also insisted with the DC to ensure no pregnant women and elderly people faces problems during their health check-up and shifting them to quarantine.

The delegation comprised leaders like former MLA Mohiuddin Bava, SDPI district president Athaullah Jokatte, Ibrahim Kodijal, Rafiuddin Kudroli and others were present.
