Sullia: Concerted efforts by a service organization yielded results and solved the decade old problems of people living in hilly areas struggling to get a pot of water. The joy on the faces of 32 family members when they received drinking water connectivity was the proof to the hardships that they had faced over the last ten years.
A small village by name Kallapalli-Batoli located off Sullia – Panattur road, under Panattadi gram panchyath limits near the Karnataka-Kerala border is inhabited by few families.
Being a hilly terrain, the people from this area has to walk several miles to get a pot of water. Their hardships used to double during the summer.
Few years ago, though a bore well was dug in the area, the water available could hardly quench the thirst of 32 families.
Several proposals were submitted to the government officials and agencies to solve their water problem but their genuine pleas fell on deaf ears. With no alternatives in sight they reverted back to natural resources and their toil increased as years went by to the extent even the tears in women eyes too dried up.
Aletti Group B members working under Shri Kshetra Dharmasthala Rural Development Project (SKDRDP) thought of a novel idea to solve the long standing problem of these families. They made concerted efforts with the affected people and managed to raise financial resources to the tune of Rs 6 lakhs and dug a new bore well in a location where there is sufficient ground water.
They then installed a 6 HP pump to lift water along and built a water tank of 30000 liters capacity. The result is that today each household is able to get 1000 liters of water everyday.
The villagers clapped and cheered as the success story was narrated during the decennial celebrations held recently by the Aletti B group in the village.
SKDRDP Project Director Dr. LH Manjunath commended the team and said that the project would be a bench mark for others to follow. The land donor Kunhajhali along with the office-bearers of the project Jagadish Perumunda, Deviprasad Baddadka, Rajesh Makktti were felicitated on the occasion.
Zilla Panchayath member Harish Kanjipili along with other leaders attended the celebrations where the joy of beneficiaries had no bounds.
