Mangalore: The Dakshina Kannada District and Sessions Court has imposed death penalty on serial killer Mohan Kumar who has been convicted in three murder cases. He is facing charges of murdering over 20 young women.
The judgement was delivered by Judge BJ Naik on Decembe r21, Saturday. Hearing into 17 cases are still pending against Mohan Kumar who has said he would challenge the District Court verdict in the High Court.
He has been convicted in the murder cases of Anitha of Barimar, Leelavathi of Vamadapadavu and Sunanda of Peruvaje in Sullia.
The Special Public Prosecutor submitted before the court that Mohan should not be shown any leniency and that he be sentenced to death as he mercilessly killed many women.
Mohan who was once a primary school teacher used to lure young and unmarried women, promise marriage, have physical relations with them and then kill them after offering cyanide pills saying they were contraceptive pills. He used to mainly use public toilets to eliminate the women. Most of the victims were found dead in public places like bus stands.
