Mangaluru: Following complaints that the foreign returnees were forced to face difficulties upon their arrival at the Mangaluru International Airport (MIA), Deputy Commissioner Sindhu B Rupesh wrote to the airport director to personally oversee the arrangements for future flights.

Even though it was a known fact that the flight coming from Dubai would be carrying passengers of special categories such as pregnant women and people requiring medical support, it was reported that the airport had not arranged sufficient human resources such as porters, assistant staff etc.

It is also alleged that passengers were not briefed adequately on the procedures involved at the airport.

The DC, in her letter to the director, informed that she had specifically instructed the staff during her visit to the airport on May 9, to take up all necessary arrangements to support the passengers upon their arrival. Hower=ver, her instructions were not followed.

Hence, the DC has now asked the MIA director to personally oversee the arrangements during the next flight that lands so that such incidents don’t occur and to also help the district administration in coordinating with the airport authorities and the concerned airlines ferrying the passengers.
