Mangalore : Deputy Commissioner N Prakash who addressed a meeting of officials at the MCC meeting hall on May 15, Wednesday has directed the officials to gear themselves up for monsoon eventualities. He also set a deadline of May 25 for the officials to desilt all side drains in Mangalore in order to ensure that there was no water clogging.
The DC has also directed officials to expedite all progress works that were earlier suspended owing to elections. On this occasion, the DC also warned erring contractors of cancellation of licence in case they failed to execute the assigned projects on time.
BS Balakrishna, Chief Superintendent Engineer of MCC who also addressed the meeting, informed that the Corporation has cleaned up huge storm water drains at a cost of Rs 71 lakhs. He also said Task Force has been constituted to assist people at times of any eventuality during monsoons. He said there will be one team for every five wards and added the Task Force will be headed by the Assistant Executive Engineer.
He said of the Rs 100 crores sanctioned to the MCC in the first phase, 12 projects are pending completion, while in the second phase Rs 15.5 crores have been released under the Rs 100 crore project and that 42 projects are pending completion. The footpath and drainage works have been entrusted to Nirmithi Kendra, he informed.
