Mangalore: “The electoral commission has been monitoring advertisements of the political parties for the Lok Sabha elections and they will be thoroughly scrutinized”, said the Deputy Commissioner A B Ibrahim during a press meet on Thursday March 20.


The DC further informed that they have created a Media Certification and Monitoring Committee consisting of the returning officers for every Dakshina Kannada Parliamentary constituency.
DC also stated the instructions related to the certification for advertisements of political nature in all types of media. The commission has furthermore issued detailed guidelines as per the social media guidelines of 25 October 2013, which mentions about furnishing details of social media accounts. They said that the Supreme Court’s order dated 13 April 2004 relating to certification for advertisements for political parties on TV channel, cable network and other media should be also abided.
The commission has developed two formats for the CEOs to report the paid news cases to the commission, however the names of involved print media and electronic media are forwarded to the press council of India (PCI) and news broadcasters association (NBA) respectively for necessary action.
Moreover it is learnt that the District election officer and Deputy Commissioner will be the chairman while other will be assistant returning officers, Station director Akashavani Dr Vasantha Kumar Perla, Senior Journalist Raghuram Bhat will be the members of the committee and the District Information officer Khader will be the nodal officer of the MCMC.
