Mangalore : An ambitious programme of the Union Government aimed at tackling adolescent anemia by distributing iron and folic acid supplementation, was launched in the district on July 17, Wednesday. The function organised by the District Administration was held at the Zilla Panchayat School at Attavar.
Deputy Commissioner N Prakash launched the scheme by lighting the traditional lamp and distributed the tablets to five students.
Speaking on the occasion, the Deputy Commissioner asked the Health and Education Department officials of the district to ensure success of the programme.
District Reproductive Health Officer Dr Rukmini who spoke about the drive, said students of Government and aided schools in DK will get iron and folic acid supplementation once a week which accounts to 52 tablets during a year. Students between 10 to 19 years will be benefitted, she said those who are not going to schools will get it through Anganavadi workers. Children will also be given Albendazole tablets twice a year for deworming, during the month of August and February, Dr Rukmini informed.
