DC – Every Family to get a ration card

Mangalore: The district administration is scheduled to start a programme to make  sure every family gets a ration card, in the coming days.

At present out of 4.39 lakh households in the district, more than 1.89 lakh households have APL (above poverty line) cards, 1.83 households have Antyodaya card, and a further 1.83 lakh have BPL (below poverty line) cards; which means that around 48,157 households do not possess a ration card.

The Deputy Commissioner AB Ibrahim during a recent meet with the revenue department stated that applicants with an Electoral Identification Card (EPIC) could also produce rent agreement slip, electricity receipt, property tax slip or Aadhaar card to secure a ration card.

The DC directed the Food and Civil Supplies Department to start an online application process.

Meanwhile a press release addressed by the DC also informed  the public about the administration’s preparation for the monsoons learnt that a taluk-level coordination committees will be set up to look after the monsoon issues.

The DC further asked them to identity flood-prone areas, and get in touch with competent swimmers, boat owners, heavy machinery and truck owners so that response to disasters can be quick.

The release said, that in the Mangalore City Corporation limits, crucial storm water drains will be cleaned of any waste or weeds that may hinder the flow of rainwater.
