DC declares red alert for next 48 hours in DK district

Mangaluru: As Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast 150 to 200 mm rains in the next 48 hours in Dakshina Kannada district, Deputy Commissioner S Sasikanth Senthil declared red alert for the next two days.

Fishermen have been asked not to venture into sea for fishing for another two days. Due to the incessant rains, both Nethravathi and Kumaradhara have swollen. District administration has taken all appropriate measures to shift the residents of flood affected areas to a safer location. Meanwhile, KPT has been identified as the centre for storing relief materials obtained from public and other organisations.

A total of 31 gruel centres ( Ganji Kendras) have been set up at different areas to assist the flood victims and a total of 1129 flood victims were shifted to safer locations. The sleuths of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Coast Guard and Fire personnel were deployed at various locations.

Senthil also asked the public to call a toll free number 1077, promising of immediate help for any rain-related issues.
