Dalit activist Ashok Konchady called for action from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to apprehend and incarcerate the accused allegedly involved in the 2022 murder of a 30-year-old laborer belonging to the Scheduled Caste. Konchady made these statements in Mangaluru on Wednesday.
Addressing reporters, Konchady highlighted their efforts in seeking a thorough investigation into the murder of 30-year-old Sridhar in Shibaje village of Belthangady taluk on December 18, 2022. He mentioned that following their representation, the State government instructed the CID to probe the case registered against four individuals at the Dharmastala police station in July 2023.
Konchady further explained that while four accused individuals had obtained anticipatory bail from the High Court of Karnataka, one of them recently threatened Harish Mugera, the complainant in the murder case, to deter him from testifying before the CID. Konchady emphasized that this action by the accused violated the conditions of bail, warranting CID intervention to revoke bail and arrest the four accused individuals.
Expressing dissatisfaction with the perceived lack of action from the CID, Konchady warned of potential demonstrations outside the office of the Deputy Superintendent of Police, Bantwal, if the CID failed to act against the accused, who are allegedly politically well-connected.
