Mangaluru: When the whole state is gearing up for the state-wide bundh on Friday, the people of Dakshina Kannada have denied support to the protest. There will be no bundh in Dakshina Kannada and if all goes as per plans, life will be normal in DK district on Friday. This move comes as a surprise considering the fact that DK district is facing the Yettinahole/ Nethravathi river diversion crisis.

One of the main protesters of the Nethravathi river diversion project, Niranjan Rai Uppinangadi said that the people from Dakshina Kannada would like to stay far away from taking part in this bundh. “When will the Government understand that what Cauvery is to Bengaluru, Mysuru and other district, Nethravathi is the same for DK district?” he questioned.
“There has never been any proper representation for the people of DK District and the promises made to us have never been fulfilled. That is why, the people here are not in a frame of mind to observe the bundh”, said Former Legislator Vijay Kumar Shetty.
Meanwhile, schools and colleges in both Udupi and Dakshina Kannada district will remain closed on Friday.
