Customs seized Indian currency worth Rs 6 lakhs MIA

Mangalore: Indian currency notes worth Rs 6 lakhs were seized from a passenger at Mangalore International Airport, by the customs officer under the supervision of Praveen Vinod, assistant commissioner of customs.

The currency was seized from 33-year-old Abdul Badoor Muhammed. He was hiding the notes in a carton in the check-in baggage.

Abdul had checked-in to board Air India Express which was scheduled to fly Sharjah at 01.25 hrs on Jun 20 from Mangalore airport.

“Around 1,200 Indian currency notes of Rs 500 denomination, totally valued Rs 6 lac concealed in the walls of a carton box, were being illicitly taken to UAE,” said a custom official in a press release.

This is the second time wherein currency has been seized by smuggling in less than a week’s time at Mangalore International Airport.
