Customs Officers seize Gold worth Rs 13.71 lac at Mangalore airport

Mangalore: Customs Department officials have seized gold valued at Rs. 13,71,951 allegedly being smuggled from Dubai on sunday April 13, 2014 in two separate cases.

The officials seized 2 gold wires valued at Rs 6,86,637 hidden in brown colored stroller suitcase. The passenger is identified as Kappanakkal Muhammed Anvar (27) resident of Bekal, Kasaragod.

In another case one gold strip hidden in a measuring tape and 44 gold buckles hidden in footwear and ladies brassiere valued at Rs 6,85,314 was also seized. The passenger is identified as Aboobacker Siddeeque Bennamgala (27), a resident of Kumbla, Kasaragod who arrived to the airport by Air India Express flight IX814 from Dubai.

The operation was conducted under the guidance of Hemen Gogoi, deputy commissioner of customs, Mangalore International Airport, Superintendents B Prabhakara Poojary, Sendhil Murugan, B A Kariappa, H G Yogesh and inspectors G Kumaraswamy, S Ranjan Behera, Santosh Kumar, Ankit Kumar and Havaldars  Varadaraju and Sowmya Naik.
