Mangaluru: With the World Cup cricket fever gripping the nation, cricket betting has also started in city and the Mangaluru police arrested a cricket bookie on Friday, May 31.
The arrested has been identified as Vishwas (40), a resident of Konaje. Police sources informed that the accused Vishwas was involved in cricket betting through a mobile app and he was also running a gambling den. He was absconding since many days and police could not trace him despite tip-offs. Based on a credible information again, a team of police successfully nabbed him and seized a mobile phone and cash of Rs 5,500 from his possession.
Commissioner of Police Sandeep Patil told newskarnataka.com that as the world cup cricket tournament had already started, police would take all appropriate measures to crack the gambling and cricket betting racket in the next coming days.
It may be noted that, after assuming power as the Commissioner of Police of Mangaluru, Sandeep Patil has raided many gambling dens and arrested several people.
