Covid care center for police personnel inaugurated in St Aloysius campus

Mangaluru: Deputy Commissioner Dr Rajendra KV inaugurated an 18-bed Covid care center exclusively for police personnel and for their family members in the now vacant student ladies hostel near St Aloysius Gonzaga School.

Appreciating the initiative, the DC said, “The police personnel are working as frontline Covid warriors while effectively implementing the Covid-19 guidelines. Hence, to boost their morale, this initiative has been taken by the police commissioner.” 

Police commissioner N Shashi Kumar said, “As police staff are frontline workers, we decided to set this center up which has 18 beds. As much as 95% of the police staff have received Covid-19 vaccines. Last year, out of 1,700 police personnel under the commissionerate, 333 personnel tested corona-positive. In the second wave, 62 personnel have tested positive of which 46 patients are under home isolation. If the police department requires additional beds, the Covid care center at NITK will be utilised.”
