Mangaluru: In a rather bizarre episode, a Dubai passenger suffering from fever and a few other symptoms, who was screened at Mangaluru International Airpot and was send to District Wenlock Hsopital, reportedly ran away from the hospital late on Sunday night.

When the man reached MIA on Sunday and showed several symptoms o f COVID-19, he was forwarded to Wenlock Hospital.

He was immediately shifted to isolation ward of Wenlock Hospital, but it has been learnt that he has left the hospital claiming that he would receive treatment in a private hospital.

Further, what leaves the authorities worried is the fact that he had argued with the staff that he has not contracted Corona Virus and nobody now knows about his whereabouts.

Earlier, speaking about the patient, District Health Officer Dr Sikandar Pasha informed that the patient would be kept under observation for the next 24 hours. If the patient is tested negative for COVID- 19, he will be discharged.

District surveillance officer Dr Naveen Kulal had said that though the patient is suffering from fever, there are very little chances of him having contaccted the corona virus infection.

However, without waiting for reports, the patient has now escaped the hospital. As the patient has not followed any procedure to get discharged from the hospital, District Health Department has lodged a complaint at Mangaluru North police station in this regard.

Over 30,000 people have underwent check-up at MIA in the last 15 days. Among them, six people, who had severe fever were discharged from the hospital after they were tested negative for COVID-19.

More details are awaited.
