Mangaluru: II JMFC Court has directed Police Commissioner of Mangaluru and Investigation Officers to admit Ahmed Qureshi, an attempt to murder accused to KMC Hospital immediately, ensure that there is adequate safety and security to the victim in the hospital. It has also further directed the Investigating Officer to report the condition of the accused to the Court time to time.

PFI protest turns ugly, police resort to caning of protestors Ahmed Qureshi’s lawyer, Dinesh Hegde Ulepady has argued that there is threat to Qureshi by the police and that the police had fabricated documents to show that Qureshi had suffered injuries in a road mishap on March 15, while the truth is that Qureshi was taken away by the police from District Court premises on March 21 and was kept under illegal confinement till March 27.

It may be recalled that the Popular Front of India staged a protest outside Police Commissioner’s office couple of days ago demanding justice for Qureshi. The organisation alleged the police of having illegally taken Qureshi into their custody on pretext of questioning him and torturing him. However, the protest turned ugly when the police resorted to lathi-charge on the protesters leaving several injured. The protesters had said that Qureshi, a painter by profession hailing from Katipalla in Surathkal was battling for life after police atrocities and that he had already lost one of his kidneys in the attack by the police.
