Mangalore: Mangalore’s JMFC court issued a non-bailable warrant for the arrest of a woman who is facing charges of misusing Dowry Prohibition Act.

The court has ordered the arrest of Dr Ranjeetha Shenoy from Davangere who had filed a dowry harassment case against her husband Dr Gurukanth Rao, assistant professor at KMC College, Manipal and his parents.

Ranjeetha had stayed with her husband for 15 days after marriage and later demanded that he settle at  her native place, Davangere. When he refused to shift from Manipal to Davangere, she demanded a divorce and crores of rupees as compensation.

Lately, Dr Gurukanth Rao noticed that Ranjeetha had not shifted to Davangere but was working in a private hospital in Mangalore. Gurukanth made attempts to convince her to come home, but she refused.

Moreover, Ranjeetha filed a complaint at Pandeshwar police station, alleging her husband and in-laws of harassing her physically and mentally for dowry.

The police who conducted an enquiry, found the complaint to be false and Gurukanth and his parents had neither taken dowry during marriage nor demanded the same.

Later, Gurukanth’s father, Dr NR Rao who is a senior physician in Manipal, approached JMFC court, Mangalore requesting the court to take action against Ranjeetha Shenoy and her parents for defaming them.

The court upheld the argument and summoned Ranjeetha and her parents to appear before the court. But, as they failed to appear, the court has issued a non-bailable warrant against them, according to a press release issued by senior lawyer PP Hegde, who appeared on behalf of Rao family.
