Puttur:A couple hailing from Mura near Kabaka in Puttur taluk have allegedly committed suicide by consuming poison in their house on October 5, Wednesday afternoon. As per the death note left behind by the woman, harassment by a neighbour over a land dispute is suspected to be the cause of the suicide. Based on the death note, police have arrested one Jinnappa Poojari, a neighbour. He has been remanded to judicial custody.

The deceased are Balasubrahmanya Bhat (48)  and his wife Hemavathi(40).  Bhat worked for a private firm in Mura.  According to sources, Hemavathi had first committed suicide after leaving behind a death note. Bhat who came home for lunch, on seeing his wife’s state, also reportedly  decided to end his life. The incident came to light when their seven year old son Akshara Sharma arrived home from school on Saturday afternoon. He informed neighbours who rushed to the house only to find Hemavathi dead. Bhat who was in a critical state was rushed to the hospital but could not be saved.

There is information that the couple had a land dispute with a neighbour named Jinnappa who used to often abuse them over the issue. Puttur police are investigating the case.
