Mangaluru: The post-mortem report of the two victims who were killed in the police firing during Thursday’s protests against Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA) is yet to come.

In the presence of forensic and ballistic experts, the post-mortem was conducted at the Government District Wenlock Hospital on Friday, December 20. Later, the bodies were handed over to their family members for the last rights. Meanwhile, the police have commenced an investigation into the firing incident, with Assistant Commissioner of Police (City Crime Records Bureau) Vinay Gaonkar being appointed as the investigating officer. Gaonkar conducted an inspection of the scene of the incident, as well as the North Police Station which the mob allegedly tried to set ablaze.

It is said that, Nausheen’s body was found about 200 metres to the left of the police station, while Jaleel’s was found some distance away to the right of the station. Even though police claimed that both Jaleel and Nausheen were involved in the protest and that the cops had no choice but to open fire to control the armed mob, the kin of the victims say that they had gone to the spot just to witness the protests.
