Bantwal: Close on the heels of the gruesome Kundapura road mishap which claimed lives of eight school students, the police department in the district has taken a leaf of lesson and plunged into action.

On Wednesday, police were seen inspecting school vans and warning the van drivers of stern action if the vehicles exceeded the stipulated number of students.

At most of the places, Maruti Omni cars were being used to ferry students from home to schools and vice-versa and in most of the cases over 10 students were made to travel in these cars.

The police have clearly told the drivers to make sure only eight students are taken in Maruti Omni cars. The department has given deadline till Monday to make alternate arrangements for the same.
