Mangaluru: The Mangaluru City Police has arrested one person in connection to a prostitution racket that was busted in the city, which brings to fore a all new face of flesh trade that thrives using virtual world.
Accused Shabari alias Vikram
Addressing a press meet at his office here on Friday July 22, Police Commissioner Chandra Sekhar said that the arrested person is Shabari alias Vikram (26), a resident of Kadugodi, Bengaluru. He said that, based on a tip off, the police team led by Sub-inspector Kalavathi, assisted by ASI Poornima raided Surya Lodge, near Hampankatta in the city and arrested the accused from the spot.
This apart, the accused was using virtual world to attract customers. He has revealed that he used to post details about girls on a website named Locanto and attract customers. He used to even put out his phone number on the site where the customers could contact him. A cook by profession, Vikram, who also ran a catering business over the last several years ventured into flesh trade over the last two years. The virtual world only gave him the needed discreetness to swiftly run his business in Bengaluru and Mangaluru. Shockingly, he has revealed that he used get acquainted to girls in weddings where he used to get orders for catering, lure them and drive them into flesh trade.
The Police Commissioner said that probe is on to find out details about Locanto. Hunt is on for two women and Manjunath, accomplices of Vikram. A case in this regard has been registered in women’s police station.
