Mangaluru: Member of Parliament, Rajya Sabha Oscar Fernandez on Saturday, followed Prime Minister Narendra Modi, claiming life saving drug (Sanjeevini) mentioned in Ramayana was real.
Referring to Sanjeevini written in Ramayana, India’s Sanskrit epic written by Valmiki approximately during 4th – 5th BC, Oscar said India was advanced in medical sciences in the historic era. He said this in his address after he laid the foundation stone for constructing a generic medical dispensary at the Wenlock Hospital.
The Congress party had earlier led the charges of BJP misinforming the public on the issues of science and technology after the BJP made similar claims earlier after taking over the reins of the government at the centre. Congress spokespersons, including many leaders had criticized Prime Minister Modi over his remarks on plastic surgery and genetic science. The country’s top minister claimed in one address, that creation Karna (abandoned child by mother Kunti) and recreation of Lord Ganesh explains genetic science and plastic surgery. He went on to say advanced medical science was real in the age of Mahabharata.
Many BJP leaders too backed this claim, while the Congress party took a sharp objection over manipulating already established Indian History. The M P, Fernandes has now joined the chorus, terming Sanjeevini was a life saving drug that existed during the age ofthe Ramayana.
The MP stated currently India imports life saving drugs from foreign forgetting her own history. Lakshmana (mythical character from epic Ramayana) was saved due to Sanjeevini medicine that was available during the bygone age. Apart from saying Sanjeevini was real, he opined India had advanced medicines were used by old generation. He advised the students to take a cue from history to overpower other countries in the arena of medical science.
