Mangaluru: A section of Congress leaders of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts have vocally expressed displeasure, after several posts were given to the minorities within the party. Leaders claim that the government in the state is trying to appease the minority communities and neglecting the Hindu community, while making appointments to various boards and corporations.

Earlier, the State government appointed Nivedith Alva, son of former minister Margaret Alva as the President of Coastal Development Authority, while a Muslim leader Mujamil Khaziya got a place in the Spice Development Board. Besides, Abdul Gafur of Kaup was decided to make president of Karnataka Fisheries Development Corporation. All these developments have irked the congress leaders belonging to other communities. In addition to it, another congress leader of Udupi Veronica Carnelio was appointed as the president of of Mysuru Soaps and Detergents Limited. Meanwhile, it’s learnt that congress leader Kodijal Ibrahim is lobbying for the post of president of MUDA, with the support of district-in charge minister B. Ramanath Rai.
Moreover, Ivan D’Souza who too is from the minority community was appointed as the MLC, although there were rumours that the post would go to another senior leader Vijay Kumar Shetty. Besdies, the Deputy Commissioner of Dakshina Kannada, RTO and MUDA Commissioner do belong to the minority community.
Commenting on these developments, a Congress leader from the Bunt community, who requested anonymity said, “The appointment of Muslims and Christians to head different posts in the city has already invited ire from the Hindu members within the Congress. Senior leaders of our community are not given any posts”, he said.
