Mangaluru: The recent proposal of the central government to introduce Uniform Civil Code (UCC) has received a lot of criticism from various committees all over the country. After a series of previously conducted protests, various Muslim organisations held a meeting favouring Shariath Law at Nehru Maidan here on Tuesday, November 22.

The Shariath Samrakshana Samavesha was organised by the Dakshina Kannada and Udupi district wings of Muslim Central Committee and associated organisations resolved to stand together against the introduction of UCC on the same occasion.
Renowned Muslim scholar B K Abdul Khadar Musliyar Khasimi Bambrana spoke to the gathering about the Muslim community standing for Shariath law united. “When Rajiv Gandhi was the prime minister of India, the thought of UCC came to the fore but the Muslims raised their voice in order to keep Shariath Law intact. The triple talaaq system has been misinterpreted by the people as according to Shariath law there are ample opportunities to keep the husband and wife together before they split”, Abdul Khadar added.
Abdul Aziz Darimi prevailed upon the Muslims to be ready for a “Delhi Chalo” movement to stand their ground on Shariath law. “The central government’s stand on surgical strike against Pakistan was to protect our nation and the Muslim community supports it. We also accepted demonetisation as it is a move to weed out black money. But in the matter of Shariath law, we cannot let the government fiddle with it”, he said.
Muslim Central Committee President K S Mohammad Massood and Vice President Ibrahim Kodijal, Jamat-e -Islam Mangaluru wing President Mohammad Kunhi, South Karnataka Salafi Movement leader Umar Shareef, State President of Popular Front of India (PFI) K M Shareef were also present at the meet.
