Mangaluru: The Rajiv Gandhi Panchayat Raj Organizational unit will be set up at all levels in all districts of the state to incorporate the principles of the Congress into the panchayat raj system, said the president of the organization, former MP C Narayanaswamy.

Speaking at a press conference after organizing a meeting of representatives of the organization here he said, ” we have already toured the districts of the state to strengthen the organization. In addition to this, we are organising the state-level conferences in the next few days. The training will be provided to the representatives of the organization, he informed.

The Congress was behind providing representation to women and weaker sections in the local bodies. The then BJP leader Rama Jois had gone to the Supreme Court to protest against reservation in local bodies. But the Supreme Court ruled by stating that the reservation was not unconstitutional. Otherwise, this representation would not have been available, he said.
