Communal clashes: another youth stabbed

Mangaluru: A day after clashes between two communities in Ulaibettu and Gurupura, another incident of assault on a youth led to tension in the Surathkal area.

On Tuesday night 30 year old Arif from Krishnapura was assaulted by three persons with sharp weapons. The victim was soon taken to a hospital.

The incident took place near Krishnapura bus stand. Soon after the victim got down from the bus was assaulted by three men who came on a bike.

After the news spread through social media, locals gathered in the area in groups. The situation was brought under control after police commissioner R Hitendra and his team arrived at the spot and dispersed the crowd.

The police had to use caning to send the people back home. Presently the situation is under control as police personnel have camped in the area.

However it is learnt that one person has been arrested in connection with assault and the exact reason for the assault is not yet known.

Further investigation is on.

From last few days, violence and protests between communities over petty issues, have disturbed peace and order in Mangaluru. These incidents have been magnified in rumors that have increased the violence and tension in the area.
