Committee announces of holding their business at Central Market from June 9

Mangaluru: Though Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) has shifted the business activities of Central Market to the APMC yard in Baikampady already, the wholesale and retailers of fruits and vegetables announced that they would return to Central Market building in Hampankatta and start their business activities from Tuesday, June 9.

Central Market Committee president Musthafa told media persons here on Monday, June 8 that the decision of shifting Central Market to APMC yard in Baikampady was taken during the lockdown and they had obeyed the instruction of the district administration. “But now, the lockdown has been relaxed and we want to continue our business activities at Central Market in Hampankatta only,” he stressed.

Mustafa also informed that Mangaluru City Corporation has failed to fulfill its promise of providing facilities at the APMC yard in Baikampady. “Though MCC had promised of giving basic facilities like power connection, water connection, toilet facilities among others, there is no such basic facilities at the yard. As we are not able to continue our business at the APMC yard, we have decided to continue our business at Central Market in Hampankatta from Tuesday, June 9,” he informed.

Meanwhile, the legal adviser of the Central Market Committee Manmohan informed that “the High Court has issued a stay order for a circular issued by the MCC. The High Court also informed that there should not be any restrictions to conduct business activities at Central Market,” he informed.

JDS supports the decision of wholesale dealers

Meanwhile, the JDS district unit has supported the decision of wholesale and retailers of the Central Market. JDS district president Mohammed Kunhi in a press conference in the city said “As the Central Market committee has decided to start their business at Central Market in Hampankatta from Tuesday, the district administration should allow them to conduct their business. If not, JDS will stage a huge protest in the next coming days.”
