Puttur: A 17-year-old college girl hanged herself at her hostel room, located at Narimogaru in Puttur taluk on Monday, September 24.

The deceased has been identified as Jeevitha, a resident of Thannirhalli, Somwarpet in Kodagu district. According to the police sources, Jeevitha was a second PUC student at Government Pre University College, Kombettu and staying in the hostel for backward classes at Narimogaru. She had been to her college on Monday morning and returned to the hostel at noon. However, after returning from the college she hanged herself in her hostel room.

It is also learnt that though there was leave for two days during Ganesha festival, she took another two days additional leave, for which the college administration had reportedly asked her to give a reason for her absence in writing. However, the exact reason for her extreme step is yet to be known.

The Puttur Town Police have registered a case in this regard and are investigating.
