Mangaluru: Bharathi Defense and Infrastructure Ltd on Wednesday launched Vessel V-410, an interceptor boat for the India Coast Guard. This is the second interceptor boat launched in Panambur yard, after the launch of V-409 vessel in November.

The Vessel V-410, an interceptor boat will be officially handed over to Indian Coast Guard by February 20.

The Coast Guard has named it Charlie 162 and it is one boat out of 15 boats that the Defense Ministry asked BDIL to supply in 2012.

Chief operating officer of BDIL Narendra Kumar told reporters that the BDIL would be constructing five more vessels for the Coast Guard. Two will be from Mangaluru and Three from Goa ship yards.

The vessel weighs about 60 tonnes and 28 meters long. The speed of the vessel is 35 knots per hour and the boat is propelled by Arneson Surface Drive. It is powered by two main engines, each with a capacity of 1,650 kW.

Coast Guard Senior Officer Surendra Singh, Commander of Coast Guard Karnataka, S.S. Dasilla, Deputy Inspector-General and Superintendent, Coast Guard Refit and Production team, Atul Parlikar, and president and head of BDIL Mangaluru Pavithran Alokkan participated were present during the launching ceremony.
