Uppinangady : Close on the heels of the clashes in Vittal Government College, yet another similar incident has been reported from Uppinangady Government First Grade College. Here, too clashes were reported between two student groups belonging to different communities on July 25, Thursday.
Sources said a boy named Ranjith had pulled the hair of a girl three days ago following which her brother had arrived in the college on Thursday and questioned Ranjith, resulting in an altercation.This eventually led to a clash between two groups. The College Principal immediately complained to the police who rushed to the college and took five students to custody.
Three of them who were injured have been hospitalised. It is learnt a total of five students were injured in the clashes, Soon after agitated students gathered in front of Uppinangady police station condemning the arrest of the students. Police even had to resort to lathi charge to diserse the students.
SP Abhishek Goel accompanied by Puttur AC Prasanna visited the police station and took stock of the situation. He has also assured stern action against those found guilty in the case.
The Uppinangady Circle Inspector Suresh Kumar also held a meeting between heads of two communities to discuss the issue.
The College Principal said a complaint has been filed against 18 students in connection with the clash. Holiday has also been declared for the college for two days.
