City police organise property return parade at Nehru Maidan on April 26

Mangaluru: A property return parade of stolen items was organised at the Nehru Maidan here on Friday, April 26, by the Mangaluru city police. Items included two-wheelers, gold articles and other items.

On the occasion, Mangaluru Commissioner of Police, Sandeep Patil said that valuables worth Rs 4.3 crores were stolen in the year 2018, of which the police had recovered articles worth Rs 3.40 crores. So far, in 2019, valuables worth Rs 65 lakhs were stolen and Rs 35 lakhs worth of valuables were recovered.

This programme has been organised after a gap of four years. The property parade symbolically displayed the stolen articles recovered by the police belonging to the 12 stations falling under the Mangalore city police.

The police were transparent in returning the recovered articles and the property return parade stands testimony to it, said Patil. He also opined that such parades should be held biennially and that citizens should be informed about such parades.

On the occasion, the police had also organised an awareness programme regarding the official app which helps citizens locate nearby police stations, report emergencies and send SOS messages to the listed family and friends. The police commissioner urged the people to download the app and make use of it.
