City Corporation budget passed without new schemes

Mangaluru: Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) council passed Rs 358.42 crore budget with surplus of Rs 1.5 lakh against the expected revenue of Rs 358.44 crore for the year 2015-16, without any new schemes. The budget was by presented Tax, Finance and Appeals Committee chairman Harinath here at the MCC council hall on Tuesday.

MCC is expecting revenue of Rs 45 crore from water cess and Rs 40 crore from property cess apart from other sources including advertisement, trade licenses. Meanwhile, the MCC is planning to spend Rs 159.86 crore on various developmental works, Rs 45.21 crore for repair and maintenance and Rs 20 crore on solid waste management. There were no major plans except stream lining all revenue generating models.

Harineth said the MCC has been expecting the completion of new vented dam, by providing 10 percent cost of total cost of construction. The dam will be sufficient to provide drinking water to all 60 wards in the MCC, he said.

The MCC has earmarked Rs 60 lakh for the repair of houses belonging to SC/STs under under Swastha Kuteera Scheme. The MCC will spend Rs 60 lakh for the scheme and eligible household can expected a compensation between Rs 15,000 to Rs 20,000.

Meanwhile, the opposition leader Sudheery Shetty claimed that the budget was disappointing. “There are no new schemes for the city and no major projects”, he said.
