Mangaluru: Dr. Amarnath Sorake, the director of the Karnataka medical college, looking to purchase commercial land in the city was duped in a land deal, by using fake documents, allegedly by tweleve persons who are now in custody. He filed a complaint at the Urwa police station, whereupon they were arrested by the police for the dupe worth Rs 2.5 crore.

The accused are Paul Montheiro, Jeevandas Shetty, Satish R K, Sunil Kumar, Praveen Shetty, Alphonso Maxi D’Souza, Udaykumar, Vijesh Sunil Kumar, Harish Tholar, Balachandra Shetty, Gopinath and Jeevan Roshan Coutinho. Dr Amarnath Sorake and his son Dr Abhinay Sorake are the victims.

Dr Amarnath Sorake had sought the help of his acquaintance and Mijar Thodar Gundi resident Rabiyath in his search for a suitable land.

Following this, Rabiyath informed Dr Sorake that a person named Victor Olivia Fernandes was ready to sell his plot measuring 6.5 acres in Pacchanadi. They met and a deal was sealed for  Rs 2,51,15,000. On production of documents by the purported owner, Fernandes, Dr Amarnath Sorake paid the money to conclude the land deal.

However, a few days later when Dr Amarnath Sorake went to check the plot, a man came and questioned Dr Sorake as to who he was and what he was doing in that plot.

When Dr Amarnath Sorake stated that he was the owner of the land as he had bought the land paying a hefty amount, the other person told him that he was Victor Olivia Fernandes, the real owner of the land and further that he had never sold that land to anyone.

Dr Amarnath Sorake realized he was duped after the real Victor Olivia Fernandes showed him the real documents.

A complaint in this regard was then registered by Dr Amarnath Sorake’s son Dr Abhinay Sorake.
