Mangaluru: ‘Agnofest – Vittoria 2014’ a two-day national-level inter-collegiate fest hosted by St Agnes College got off to a brilliant start on Friday December 5.


Vijay Raghavendra – the much celebrated Kannada star and chief guest inaugurated the programme. Jayamohan Thampi – DGM State Bank of Mysore was the chief guest and delivered the presidential address.The chief guest and other dignitaries were taken in an eye-catching colorful procession to the venue.
After the inaugural, addressing the gathering Vijay Raghavendra said, “It is a great achievement that St Agnes has been empowering women for the past 93 years, and I hope it continues to do so.” He also advised the students to excel in life and achieve their goals.
Speaking on his films and upcoming directorial venture – ‘Kismat’, the star urged everyone to watch the film. He also thanked all the teenage girls of the region, considering that he won the ‘Big Boss’ title as maximum number of votes that he had acquired were from Mangaluru city.
Lastly, the cine actor congratulated all the students and organizers for their effort towards the event and wished them well.
Earlier, Shubharekha – Staff coordinator delivered the welcome address, while the prayer song was sung by Apthati and group. The welcome dance by the students of Agnes College gave a glimpse of the upcoming event and battle to win the trophy.
Sr. M Supriyaa C – Principal also encourgared the students during the inaugural event, Pamela D’costa – Student Council President and Coordinator, Agnofest, delivered the vote of thanks.
During the event, the champion’s trophy was also unveiled.
More than 20 colleges are taking part in the event. The fest is divided into arts, management/commerce, and science faculties, each having a set of events – Abnegatio – general events; Amicus – Arts events; Erudio – Science events. Several other cultural programs are also slated to be held.
The Valedictory function will be held on Saturday December 6, at the open air stage in the college. The Prizes will be given away by Raghavendra Bhat – general manger of Karnataka Bank.
