Mangalore: The city which is largely tagged as ‘communally sensitive’ comes with a different story this time. It’s about a marriage involving two religions. It might sound familiar to those who keenly follow celebrities, but in Mangalore, it’s not a happening phenomenon. In fact, the city has blindly witnessed several cases of suicide of lovers, who in most of the cases belong to different religions.

Well! It was a marriage between a Christian man and a Hindu woman, belonging to the jain community. The marriage took place at Arya Samaja, in accordance with the Hindu customs. Members of Bajaranga Dal got them married after the groom agreed to convert to Hindu religion.

Earlier, the court had approved the marriage of this couple, who hail from Pumpwell. Hence, the couple got married according to the Christian custom on May 30.

The couple Wilson Rakesh D’Souza (21) of Pumpwell and Shobini N.S (18) tied wedding nuptials at 12 in Arya Samaja according to the Hindu rituals. The mother of groom and friends of the bridegroom took part in the wedding. As the groom tied the wedding knot, their friends blessed the couple.

Earlier, the groom had approached the members of Bajarang Dal for their support. Therefore, we got him baptized as Rakesh and the priest conducted rituals according to the Hindu customs, said Bajarang Dal spokesperson Puneeth Kottari.

The couple are said to be neighbors. Both eventually fell in love with each other. However, the family of the girl repeatedly opposed their love. In addition, the family had also lodged a complaint stating that the their daughter who is minor is missing, in the Mangalore rural police station.

In this regard, Mangalore JMFC court on Saturday inquired the willingness of the couple to get married. Here, the girl stated her love for Rakesh. As the girl had  turned major, the court favoured their marriage.
