Mangaluru: Kankanady Town police arrested two persons in connection to chain snatching and seized gold ornament and a motorcycle.

The arrested have been identified as Harshith Shetty alias Harshith (25), son of Dinakar Shetty, resident of Alape village and Havith Poojary (24), son of Suresh Poojary, Kulashekar. Among the accused, Harshith Shetty has several pending cases related to murder, attempt to robbery, drug peddling among others in Kavoor and Ullal police stations. Another accused Havith Poojary has two pending cases related to murder and attempts to murder in Kavoor and Ullal police stations.

Sources from Kankanady Town police station said that the accused snatched Mangalsutra from an elderly woman when she was walking on Naguri Angelore Church Road on April 22, 2019. They came in a motorcycle and approached the elderly woman on the pretext of seeking direction to go to a place. When she was about to respond, they snatched her Mangalasutra and fled the scene. Based on a complaint, a team of police from Kankanady Town police succeeded to arrest both accused. They also seized Mangalasutra and a motorcycle, total worth Rs 1.10 lakh from their possession.

The accused were remanded to judicial custody.
