CCB sleuths arrest four in temple thefts, chain snatching cases

Mangaluru: The CCB police have been successful in arresting four persons, who were involved in thefts at temples and in chain snatching incidents in Mangaluru and other police station limits in Dakshina Kannada district and have recovered gold chains worth Rs 6 lakh, a mobile phone and 11 bikes worth Rs 9 lakh, amounting to a total of 15 lakh from the accused, said City Police Commissioner S Murugan.
He was addressing press persons in the city on October 20.

“The police received information that the accused had snatched a woman’s chain and were on the run having taken a less travelled route from BC Road to Mangaluru. The CCB police led by inspector Valentine D’Souza arrested the four near Valachil” he said.

The arrested are Mohammed Rafeeq (26), Apreem Shiyad (19), Kaushik Nihal of Arkula and Ummar Farooq Irfan (19) of Surathkal. The accused were involved in several chain snatching cases. The police have been successful in cracking chain snatching incidents that were reported earlier at Kavoor, Mangaluru East, Mangaluru South, Mangaluru North, Ullal and Mangaluru Rural police station limits from April 4, to October 3, 2015.

The Commissioner also said that the accused were using fake number plates on the bikes while committing the offences.

The accused, apart from chain snatching were also involved in thefts at Innoli Sri Somanatheshwara temple, Jain Basadi (temple) in Venoor, Muniyala Daivasthana, Panjikal Daivasthana, Karangalpady Daivasthana, Kordabbu Daivasthana at Pumpwell, looting a mobile shop at Bondel and theft of arecanuts from two godowns in Bantwal.
